1904 - 1988. Professional training: workshop of J. Moshkevich in Tomsk (1914-1917), Landscape studio at the Latvian Academy of Arts (1922.-1932.) under the supervision of professor V. Purvītis.
Contributor to exhibitions since 1927. "Rome Prize" sponsored by the Latvian Academy of Arts in 1935. This took him to Italy for advanced studies (1936-1937).
His works have been exhibited in Russia, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, the United States, and elsewhere. The bronze medal at the EXPO-1958 World Exhibition in Brussels.
A number of his paintings are permanent exhibits of Latvian Art Museum. They are on display at major museums in Latvia and Russia, and in art collections in Japan, India, Germany, the United Statesand Lithuania.
Professor at the Latvian Academy of Arts. Many Latvian artists were his students.
