ILZE AVOTINA

Born in 1952. Professional training: Janis Rozentals Art School of Riga (1962- 1970), Painting Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts (1973-1979) under the supervision of Professor I. Zarins.
Regular participant of exhibitions since 1978. A member of the Artists' Union of Latvia as of 1980. A member of the B - 13 Association (1993 - 1998) since 1993.

The painter has had several personal displays of her works in Latvia and has taken part in group exhibitions in Riga, Moscow, Vilnius, Italy, Spain, Cuba, Germany, the United States, and France. Her works are to be found in private collections in Latvia and abroad, as well as in the State Art Museum and the Artists' Union of Latvia, the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and Ministry of Culture of Russia. First exhibited at the Vilnius Painting Triennial.

"For me, painting is like yielding to some superior power, it is like a man loving a woman and a mother her child, like a flower blossoming in the garden. You just yield to it."
